Red
Hook has a unique opportunity to preserve the rural character of our town
by acquiring lands for sale by Central Hudson. As a parent, I am well aware of the tremendous use current recreation areas experience. The town would benefit for years to come from additional recreation areas. This benefits all citizens: children engaged in healthy outdoor exercise are likely to become good teens and, ultimately, good citizens in turn. |

As
Mayor of Tivoli, working with state and local leaders, we initiated the
largest financial investment ever in our recreation park. Matched with
our village-wide trail plan – constructing a trail from the Village
center to Tivoli Bays and Bard College – we have significantly expanded
our active and passive park space. As a former member of Red Hook’s
Open Space Committee, I served with other local leaders, like Ruth Ojay
and Tom Cordier to move the village-to-village trail forward. Working
with the Town, we were successful in securing funds through Senator Saland
for a foot bridge to move the project forward. As the Town grapples with important parkland needs, I remain supportive of their efforts and will work with town officials, athletic clubs and others to ensure the resources of county government are available to assist with park improvements and development of new athletic fields. |

The current Republican majority are poised to defeat the acquisition of the central corridor of land. For all their talk of smart growth, they refuse to act. Our Master Plan states that "exaction" is a method the town can use to preserve the public good. |
