James
Ross candidate for Town Board
Name:
James Ross
Address / Phone: 12 Prince Street, Red Hook NY 12571
(845) 758-6509
Position Sought: Red Hook Town Council
Previous Service: 16 Years as a Member of the Town Council
Former Member of the Conservation Advisory Committee
Served on Town Council from 1980 - 1984
In the past two years, the Town of Red Hook has accomplished much:
We have implemented the Purchase of Development Rights Program, which
was unanimously adopted three years ago. Together with Scenic Hudson
and Dutchess County we have protected Red Hook’s “Bread
Basket,” important farmland.
We have moved closer, breaking ground on the clean up of the Perx property
last week, to developing affordable senior housing in the Village of
Red Hook.
I have worked hard with the other Board members to maintain our tax
base and insure fiscal integrity – keeping town taxes as low as
possible.
We continue to plan and work toward development of a new highway garage
to improve working conditions for our employees and efficiency of the
department.
We unanimously approved and have begun to implement our Conservation
Easement program in a fair and equitable way for all taxpayers.
Should I be re-elected, I would like to work to:
Complete the Highway Garage project.
Strengthen our Zoning Code to help promote quality economic development
Further promote and support our open space and farmland protection programs
Enhance dialogue with our school district to further enhance programs
and partnership
Primarily, the important issues facing our community are:
Taxes and the Cost of Living
Preservation of Open Space and Farmland
Community Safety
Attainable Senior Housing and Housing for Young People
As a Board Member, I have always worked hard and have served with honesty.
I have kept my eyes and ears open without prejudice to do what is best
for the entire community. If re-elected I will continue to do so, and
will strive to serve all the people of Red Hook the best I am able.
